CUEE Petition Drive Gains Momentum; CUEE-Education Planning Committee Hosts Viewing of Critically Acclaimed "Waiting for Superman" Movie
CUEE Petitioners Exceed 7,000 Signatures

(Valdosta, GA) Community Unification for Educational Excellence (CUEE) announces that it has collected more than 7,000 signatures on the petition to put the question of unification of our school systems on the November 8 ballot.

"We are delighted with the overwhelming response we have received so far with our petition drive," said Minister Leroy Butler, Chairman of the CUEE Board. "We talk with people every day who want to sign the petition and to have the right to vote on this issue."

George Bennett, volunteer coordinator for CUEE, agreed. "I am so proud of the canvassers, volunteers and community members who have participated in this process. They have braved the heat and the elements to get us this far, but there is still work to be done before we reach the July 11 deadline."

CUEE will have its scheduled Education Planning Meeting at 5:30 p.m. today, Thursday, June 23 at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Valdosta where at 6:30 p.m., a viewing of the critically acclaimed documentary on education in America called "Waiting for Superman" will be played. A panel discussion will take place following the film. The public is invited.

"Waiting for Superman" is a critique of the failures of the educational system and a discussion of solutions to educational shortcomings presented by various education reform experts. The film follows a group of bright young students as they try to gain entrance into charter schools through a random lottery.
